He's been out on loan for the past two years to Amber, with whom he started an eventing career and in one season went from BE90 to being placed in his first Novice, proving a machine across the country. Unfortunately 2014 saw him lose his spark a bit and Amber reported that he didn't feel like he wanted to jump anymore, and was backing off fences. This is a world away from the Monty we all know and love, who would jump whatever you point him at with no questions asked.
I'm very sad that he's returned home under these circumstances, but am equally delighted to have him home again. He's just having a little holiday to forget work, get a bit of weight on before winter and just generally be a horse. In October I'll bring him back into work slowly, lots of hacking and building up and go from there.
Amber has said that his flatwork has been flourishing, so it might be that he goes on to be dressage diva. I'm secretly hoping that he might reignite his love of jumping again, be it 90 or Novice, but in the same respect he owes me nothing and if he wants to hack and do posh trotting instead, so he shall.
He's very special to me and just one of the family - I can't wait to get on board and ride him again, I have the fondest memories of highly entertaining, fun hacks and adventures with the boy! Looking forward to making some more memories...welcome home Monts.
